Nigeria Facing Another Secessionist Movement In Southwest Region OSOGBO — Amid the Biafran separatist movement in the old eastern region...
OSOGBO — Amid the Biafran separatist movement in the old eastern region of Nigeria, another secessionist movement has began in the southwestern region of the country.
The clamour for the “Republic of Oduduwa” that came in force barely two months ago amid clamour for Biafra has brought the oil-rich African country that has fought against Biafra for decades into the limelight.
Many believe that Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a prominent Nigerian separatist group, influenced the new secessionist movement in the southwest.
Experts have repeatedly blamed the renewed Biafran separatist movement on government insensitivity and ill-treatment in the south-south and eastern region where clamour for an independent state known as Biafra began.
