Truck burnt after killing cart pusher in Anambra
A truck reportedly owned by the Dangote Group was on Tuesday set ablaze in Onitsha, Anambra State, after killing a cart pusher.
The driver was said to have fled the scene.
The Federal Road Safety Corps Sector Public Education Officer in the state, Kamal Musa, said the incident occurred around 9.55am on Tuesday.
He said, “Around 9.55am on November 10, 2020, a male adult whose identity was not captured was crushed to death in a fatal road crash involving a Dangote truck without a registration number near Zenith Bank, Onitsha, along Onitsha-Owerri Road.
“According to eyewitnesses, the truck driver slipped out of his lane due to excessive speeding and crushed a pedestrian, who is well known in the community, hence angry youths revenged by setting the truck ablaze when the driver was nowhere to be found.
“The FRSC rescue team from Upper Iweka outpost was immediately mobilised for rescue operations only to be intercepted by angry youths, who took the corpse of the victim away.”
He said the state Sector Commander, Andrew Kumapayi, warned motorists, especially truck drivers, to abide by the stipulated speed limits in built-up areas to avert road crashes.
