 Biafra: DOS Diplomatic approach and the need for Understanding and Support 

It is really laughable to hear those that ought to have known better, assume and equally deceive others through their statements, that a call for a referendum, is an outright invitation for war. This is annoyingly wrong and is bereft of sincerity. It is necessary to state here that the legitimate demand for a referendum by any people, which is a purely democratic approach globally practiced, cannot be a call for war, as being deceitfully floated by the Nigerian government.

After every war, comes definitely, a round table discussion, which Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been advocating for. It is the only viable framework through which concerned parties have to peacefully converge round a discussion table, to proffer the needed solution on the best way forward. The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), have consistently been pushing over the years, for the independence of the nation of Biafra via viable means as recommended and required by the laws of the United Nations which Nigeria is a significant signatory to.

But instead of paying civilized attention to this demand, the Nigerian government has persistently responded with heavy handedness through random arrests, detentions, maimings and killings of Biafran agitators. Now, they have disappointedly understood that guns, boots and bullets cannot extinguish the Biafran ideology and so have no other choice than to agree on a round table discussion or better still, a political solution which is the only civilized approach even in a democracy. One does not have to sit on a plateau to discuss the issues of referendum but rather, to humbly converge and sit round a table to sincerely and meaningfully deliberate on this very important subject of a referendum, regional government, unity or even total separation. This is what is called a political solution. 

Before this political solution will take effect, the arrow heads of independence agitations in the persons of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho for Biafra and Ododuwa nations respectively, must have to be unconditionally freed from incarceration. This is the first step to take in pursuit of an unbiased political solution because they cannot be in chains and be dialoguing. As IPOB lawyers rightly said, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will lead in the discussions for a political solution and this cannot sail while in chains. The recent cancellation of sit-at-home protests by the IPOB leadership after much plea by elders, traditional rulers, religious and political leaders, has again proven that IPOB is not a terrorist organization. 

This body is open for any meaningful political solution that will birth the aspiration and wishes of the Biafran people either continued Nigeria, regional government or outright separation. It is really annoying to note that some Biafrans have joined the external forces to fight the IPOB leadership in their decisions. It is important to get fully reminded that every decision so far taken by the Directorate of State (DOS) of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is just only for the best interest of the Biafran people. The decisions may be painful sometimes, but this DOS which Mazi Nnamdi Kanu himself thoughtfully constituted, will never ever disappoint or compromise the interests of Biafrans. Though no one could be denied the right of criticism but such has to be constructively helpful and encouraging.

At this critical time, all that the IPOB leadership needs, is undivided support and encouragement and not destructive criticisms which some have very unfortunately, embarked on.
