Breaking: Court Rejects Nigeria Government's Challenge, Rules In Favor Of Kanu
The Nigerian High Court in Umuahia, Abia State have on 19th January, 2022 ruled against government's challenge on it's jurisdiction to hear Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's application.
Recall that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra(IPOB) was abducted in Kenya, tortured and extraordinarily renditioned to Nigeria. And the Nigeria government's reason for embarking on such an illegal mission is that they wanted Kanu to return to Nigeria to face his trials, which are bordering on treasonable felony and other flippant accusations.
But one thing clear is that if the Nigeria government sincerely wanted Kanu to return for the purpose they claims, there is a laid down international procedure for extraditing him back to Nigeria, and not by the criminal route the took.
To this effect, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu forwarded an application to the Umuahia high court through one of his counsels, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, demanding that the court prevails on the Nigeria government to return him(Kanu) to Kenya(his original location before he was abducted), and that the government compensates him for the infringement on his fundamental human rights, dating since the Nigeria military's invasion of his ancestral home in 2017 till this his abduction from Kenya.
Laughably, the Nigeria government tried to challenge the Umuahia High Court's jurisdiction to hear the Kanu's application. But the challenge is such a shallow one to the norms of the judiciary because both the state and federal high courts are of coordinate jurisdictions.
Therefore, the Umuahia high court boldly rejected the government's challenge and went on with the hearing of the Kanu's application.
And because justice must have its place, this honorable court of competent jurisdiction in Umuahia ordered at the end of the hearing, that Nigeria government should return Mazi Kanu back to Kenya (the place he was abducted).
Our correspondent also reliably gathered that the court have ordered the Nigeria government to compensate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu with the sum of One Billion Naira for the repeated abuse on his human rights.
