Killing of Unarmed Protesting IPOB: Nigerian Army Raises Alarm Ask Soldiers In South East to be On alert for Possible Retaliation By IPOB ESN
The Nigerian Army has accused the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), an outlawed group, of planning to ambush and attack security operatives in the South-East region.
In an internal memo sent to commanders, the army urged soldiers to be more wary of movements outside barracks.
They were also warned to watch their language in public and avoid making any inflammatory remarks that could escalate tensions.
“I am directed to inform All Officers and Men of the Command of a planned attack by aggrieved group (IPOB) on security agencies in the South East. Intelligence revealed that the aggrieved group claimed that several of their members were killed in Abia on 31st March, 2023.
“To ensure your safety and security of our formation and officers; it is advisable to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
“It is also essential to watch your language in public spaces and avoid making any inflammatory remarks that could escalate tensions.
“Please follow the instructions given in the message, including remaining vigilant, carrying your rifles while on guard duty, and refraining from wearing your uniform outside of the office premises/ barracks.
“Please follow the instructions given to ensure your safety and the safety of those around you. Thank you for your continued dedication.”
Recall that on 31st March 2023, Nigeria military opened live bullet on unarmed protesting IPOB demanding the Nigerian government to obey court orders and free Nnamdi Kanu the IPOB. According to IPOB statement, 50 unarmed protestors were killed and many missing. Nigeria federal high court and Appeal court have discharged Nnamdi Kanu of all charges and ordered for the release, but the government refused to obey these orders.
A statement by Powerful IPOB publicity secretary partly read: “The brutal murder of 50 protesters, forceful disappearances, and abduction of many, and gun injury to many more peaceful Biafran protesters for demanding the unconditional release of Kanu as Appeal Court has pronounced, that he has been discharged and acquitted is a grave atrocity.
“The supreme leader of IPOB is manhandled by the Nigerian government and its security agents in the DSS custody in Abuja. On black Friday, March 31, 2023, many of our people were murdered, and we shall duly recognize their sacrifice when Biafra history is written.
“The continuous abduction and massacring of unarmed Biafrans by Nigeria terrorist security agencies shall not go unavenged at the appointed time. He who kills by the sword should be ready to die by the sword.”
