The Continued Illegal Detention of Nnamdi Kanu And The Call To Allow Justice Prevail

There have been debates surrounding the continued detention of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, while some base their argument for his release on his discharge and acquittal by the appeal and federal high court, others question the motives behind his continued detention and cite it on the feelings of hatred against the Igbo race in Nigeria.

Kanu, despite being discharged and acquitted by the Nigerian courts, has continued to remain illegally detained by Nigerian Department of State Service(DSS). This has raised serious concerns about the adherence to the rule of law in Nigeria. Many are of the opinion that, If a court has ruled in favor of Kanu's release, it is only fair and just that he be set free. Denying him his freedom raises questions about the integrity of the judicial system and undermines the principles of justice and fairness in a fragile Nigeria.

There are other opinions on this lingering matter, but fails to address the crucial question of what offense Nnamdi Kanu has committed that warrants his continued detention. Some of these few one sided options are mostly from some Writers and commenters in favor of the Nigeria System. Whatever anyone thinks, it is essential to evaluate the validity of the charges against Kanu and see if the courts were right or wrong in pronouncing him a free man. Continuing to deny the IPOB leader his freedom without a just cause, and against the pronunciations of the Nigerian Court is a violation of the law, the IPOB Leader's human rights, and contradicts the principles of a democratic society.

This treatment of Nnamdi Kanu and the wider political persecution faced by the Igbos in Nigeria, further fans the perception of hatred against the Igbo race. Kanu’s continued detention has escalated the argument that there is intentional conspiracy on the continued political persecution and suppression of the Igbo people in Nigeria. And, to say the least, it is essential to address these concerns and ensure that justice is served, not just for Kanu but for all those who have suffered due to prejudices.

Development and progress can only thrive in a secure and stable environment. The current state of insecurity in Nigeria raises concerns about the safety of both politicians and ordinary citizens. It is crucial for the government to prioritize the security of its people and address the root causes of unrest and agitations. The release of Nnamdi Kanu will contribute to restoring a sense of justice and peace in the country.

It is worth noting that IPOB has been proactive in curbing the urge for violence. The movement has continued to base her call on promoting peaceful measures. However, the continued illegal detention of Kanu completely undermines the efforts of IPOB in restoring peace in South East. The government should recognize and engage with IPOB constructively to address their concerns, rather than further alienating them and the detention of their leader.

It is essential to challenge the narratives put forth by some biased individual Writers in the Nigerian media, and demand accountability and justice for Kanu and the wider Igbo race. Only by upholding court orders, addressing the concerns of the people, and ensuring a secure environment, can Nigeria progress towards true unity and development. It is time for the government to listen to the voices calling for justice and act in the best interests of the nation as a whole.
