Manhandling Of NLC Boss By Hope Uzodimma's Goons In Imo State, An Appetizer Of What Is Yet To Come
According to Martin Luther King Jr of blessed memory “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
The above quote serves as a guide and reminder that no matter who is involved or who is being affected, Injustice must be condemned and fought, because if you do not fight injustice against a friend or even a foe, tomorrow you could fall victim to the same tragedy and no one will come to your aid. That is the moral lesson behind the above quote.
Of course, the brutalization of the Nigeria Labour Congress Chief, Mr. Joe Ajaero by hired thugs working for Hope Uzodimma and the Imo State Police Command must be condemned by all and sundry. Mr Ajaero was reported to have been leading a peaceful protest, consisted of workers and civil servants against the state government over poor treatment of workers, before the hoodlums arrived the scene, picked him up, blindfolded him, took him to an unknown destination and beat him up mercilessly. This is barbaric and must be condemned. Peaceful protest is a Human right protected by the Nigerian Constitution and International law.
However, it must be stated unequivocally that average Nigerians understands injustice only from a lateral posture. To them, Injustice exists only when they, their families, friends, associates or favored personality are affected. It does not exist when the aforementioned entities are not the picture.
For over a decade, the Nigerian security forces have applied brutal forces on Pro-Biafra activists who protests political and economic marginalization of the people of Eastern Nigeria. Starting from the days of MASSOB where about a hundred unarmed Pro-MASSOB activists were massacred and their lifeless bodies dumped into the Ezu River, to the contemporary days of the indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) movement whom since 2015 have lost more than 5,000 of her members to the cold hands of the trigger-happy operatives of the Nigerian security forces. In all these, an average Nigerian believes that the victims somehow are at fault and therefore deserves the harrowing treatments meted on them.
Fast forward to 2022, when the Nigerian Appellate court discharged and acquitted the Leader of IPOB – Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who was kidnapped and Extra ordinary renditioned from Kenya to Nigeria, a year earlier – many Nigerians [Obidients] kicked against the court judgement arguing vehemently that his release was a concerted plan by the ruling party and the oligarchs therein, to scuttle the chances of their preferred candidate for the upcoming February 2023 presidential election. This was the same man who voluntarily invested time, resources and support during the #EndSars protest against police brutality back in 2020.
Unfortunately, they never knew they were shooting themselves in the foot. After the election which is widely acknowledged to have been rigged against their candidate, they were compelled to go to court to seek redress and those who stole their mandate, went on to also double-cross them at the judicial level. They could not even put up a fight because they lost the moral appetite to do so and the man who would have undoubtedly inspired them by speaking out against the injustice, is still being incarcerated courtesy of their negligence and ignorance.
The truth remains that the Imposition of Hope Uzodimma in Imo state and the accompanying disaster unfolding afterwards was not a surprise at all. At least not to the people who raised alarm over the travesty of justice by which he emerged as the Supreme Court governor of the state. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB raised the alarm about his criminal maneuvers and how it will spell doom for the people but, owing the one-sided and individualistic viewpoint of the Nigeria enclave, these calls were ignored. Today everyone including the NLC Chief has, had a taste from the pot of distaste served by Mr. Hope and his accomplices.
And, should he succeed in re(s)electing himself into the state House in Owerri, in few days’ time – November 11th, 2023. Then the people should be assured that the worse is yet to come. This is why all hands must be on deck to ensure that justice does not only prevail in Imo state, not only for Eastern Nigeria, not only for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB and Biafra, not only for civil servants, citizens, the youths, unpaid security forces, fathers, mothers or school children, not only for Deborah Samuel or Mohbad, but for everybody.
This is a moral obligation for us all as Human Beings. The more we neglect it, the harder it boomerangs.
