Abducted Biafrans Face Extrajudicial Executions and Organ Harvesting by Nigerian Military
In a chilling revelation, intelligence from the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has unveiled a covert Nigerian military operation aimed at the unlawful abduction, detention, and possible execution of over 100 Biafran citizens. These detainees, which include activists and innocent civilians, have been held without charge, deprived of legal representation, and subjected to severe human rights violations. Many of these abductions occurred as the victims returned from supporting Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB’s leader, during his court appearance in Abuja.
Reports now indicate that these abductees are being transported to a clandestine facility at Wawa Army Barracks in Niger State—a location previously identified as a secret execution site operated by the Nigerian military. This facility is not only notorious for illegal executions but has also raised concerns about potential organ harvesting, a crime that defies medical ethics and international human rights laws.
The abductions represent yet another stain on the reputation of the Nigerian military, which has been accused of abuses and extrajudicial killings over the years. This current operation against Biafrans, however, reveals an escalation in both scope and brutality. IPOB’s intelligence has identified the names of several detainees: The names are:
Ekwueme Thomas, Pius Onochie, Obinna Akapuru, Monday Ifeanyi, Iwuoma Bright, Ochi Ekene, Nwakaego Ibe, Ebube Kelvin, Elvis Chigbu, Ndubuisi Ekekwe, Ogbonna Nnamdi, Obinna Felix, David Ebuka, Arinze Chukwudi, Chibueze Christian, and Oriji Solomon, among many others.
All have been unlawfully detained, stripped of basic human rights, and are now facing possible death without a chance to defend themselves.
The Nigerian government, through these actions, is violating both international law and basic principles of human decency. Extrajudicial killings, indefinite detention, and organ harvesting are actions that belong to the darkest chapters of human history, yet they are occurring in Nigeria under the guise of “maintaining order.” These actions contravene international treaties such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights, both of which Nigeria is a signatory to and must adhere to.
The detained Biafrans have not been granted the right to legal representation, a fundamental right in any democratic society. These detentions have been carried out in complete secrecy, with families left in anguish and community members fearful of a government that appears to be operating with unchecked power. The detainees are held without formal charges, deprived of fair trials, and are allegedly being transported across the country to locations that serve as execution camps rather than detention centers.
The suspicion of illegal organ harvesting adds an even more sinister dimension to this situation. Harvesting organs from detainees is not only a gross violation of human rights but also a breach of every known medical ethical standard. These accusations, if verified, implicate Nigerian security forces in a practice that is globally condemned. Organ harvesting turns the lives of the detainees into commodities, stripping them of their humanity and violating their dignity in a horrifying way. Such practices erode the moral fabric of any institution, casting the Nigerian military into the shadow of war crimes.
IPOB calls upon the international community, human rights organizations, and humanitarian bodies to take immediate notice and action against these ongoing violations. The silence surrounding the Nigerian military’s operation against Biafrans only emboldens the perpetrators of these injustices.
We ask the United Nations, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and other advocacy groups to apply pressure on the Nigerian government, demanding the release of these detainees and a halt to the military’s extrajudicial tactics.
Nigeria’s continued membership in international bodies must be questioned if the government allows such atrocities to be carried out under its watch. By tolerating this operation, Nigeria is flouting every agreement and human rights principle it has pledged to uphold.
The detained Biafrans deserve justice, a fair trial if charged, and an end to the inhumane treatment they have been subjected to.
The names of the abducted Biafrans are not just a list; they are individuals, each with family, community, and a life unjustly cut short by state forces. The families and communities of Ekwueme Thomas, Pius Onochie, Obinna Akapuru, Monday Ifeanyi, Iwuoma Bright, Ochi Ekene, Nwakaego Ibe, Ebube Kelvin, Elvis Chigbu, and many more continue to wait for any sign of hope, fearing the worst in the absence of justice.
The international community cannot look away while innocent lives are endangered by a military force acting outside the law. IPOB in numerous press statements strongly urged the Nigerian government to uphold its obligations to human rights and cease all extrajudicial actions against Biafrans. IPOB have demanded that all detainees should be granted immediate access to legal representation, transparent trials, and respect for their basic human rights.
We also appeal to human rights defenders, political leaders, and every conscientious individual worldwide to voice their opposition to these atrocities. Nigeria must not be allowed to operate with impunity, and the world must stand together in defending the basic rights and dignity of every individual, Biafran or otherwise.
This is not just an issue for Biafrans but a wake-up call to the world: to act decisively against any nation-state that violates the sanctity of life and liberty under the guise of security.
