ORSU Genocide: Addressing The Misleading Claims And Setting the Records Straight

It is imperative to clarify the false narrative being promoted by the government sponsored Chukwudi Okparaku, who identifies himself as the Chairman of the Odimma Orsu Initiative. Mr Okparaku and the run-of-the-mill group he purportedly leads recently made a press statement via Punchnews.com, portraying Orsu Ihitenasa as a ghost town due to insecurity, and accused the insecurity in the spotless Indigenous People Of Biafra(IPOB) Movement.

Clearly, the people of Orsu and its environs have inalienable right to peace, and every activities that oppose that right must be condemned by all people of conscience. However, the lies and baseless accusations directed at IPOB and the Eastern Security Network(ESN) by Mr. Okparaku and his horde of greedy old men must be sternly and collectively opposed and condemned for lacking any iota of truth whatsoever.

Mr Okparaku unfairly blames IPOB for crimes committed by certain youths in Orsu, many of whom are escaped prisoners from the 2021 Owerri prison break, which is a government facility under maximum security but was breached in what many say was a staged break. These individuals have since been exploited by politicians to assassinate political opponents who threaten their ambitions.

For the records, IPOB have repeatedly issued statements distancing herself from the chaos created by these criminal elements in Orsu. Mazi Chinasa Nworu, a high-ranking member of the IPOB Directorate of State (DOS) has consistently emphasized that ESN has no operational presence in Orsu since 2021. This is the claim that criminal camps anywhere in Orsu belongs to ESN is false and baseless. It is concocted narrative to distract from the real issue by means of psychological manipulation.

In a recent Radio Biafra broadcast on February 1, 2025, Mazi Chinasa Nworu highlighted how criminals have been using the name of IPOB/ESN to extort money from unsuspecting residents of Imo State. These individuals often make threatening phone calls, falsely claiming to be ESN operatives offering security services.

It is apparent that Nigeria government in its desperate attempt to label IPOB a terrorist organization has invested heavily in sponsoring criminal activities to tarnish IPOB’s peaceful image in her approach to self-determination. The government's tactic involves using Igbo youths to create chaos and then employing figures like Chukwudi Okparaku who is both sponsored, mischievous and criminally ignorant, to spread misinformation.

The same politicians who have hired Mr. Okparaku to defame IPOB/ESN are fully aware of the real sponsors of the ongoing criminality in Orsu. But as it is, they choose to point fingers at IPOB/ESN simply because the Movement have consistently rejected violence, and Nigeria government is desperately shopping for non-existent evidence to show the international community.

It is worth recalling that Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, during a live broadcast, openly stated that IPOB is not responsible for the violence in Imo. He clarified that politicians were behind the assassination of political opponents and the destruction of properties. He even noted that while APC members had been targeted, members of other parties remained unharmed in the political power struggle.

Further evidence of state-sponsored violence can be seen in attacks at Ikenga Ugochinyere’s home - a notable opposition party’s member of parliament. His home was raided and burnt down in the middle of the night by Nigerian military in what many believe to be an order from above, meant to shake him down. Similarly, when the house of IPOB lawyer, Barr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor was attacked and set ablaze in the dead of night, CCTV footage captured armed Nigerian military personnels causing the destruction.

Mr. Okparaku, was IPOB or ESN responsible for these acts of terror as well?

Our people are fully aware that elements within the Nigerian armed forces are at the forefront of the violence and criminality plaguing the Southeast, especially Imo State. Despite these glaring facts, many Nigerians, particularly Ndigbo, continue to fall victim to the state's sponsored crimes and propaganda aimed at discrediting IPOB/ESN.

All people of conscience must rise and seriously condemn these happening, and equally condemn such falsehood as being paraded by Mr Okparaku, because it is rather worsening the situation than providing solution.
